Dump trucks suspended after deaths
    2016-10-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FOUR dump truck companies were ordered to suspend operations for two weeks for rectification over fatal accidents that claimed five lives during the National Day holidays.

On Oct. 2, a dump truck with Shenzhen Weixiong Aozhan Transportation Co. collided with a private car, which was waiting at a red light in Pingdi Subdistrict, Longgang District. The truck then lost control and crashed into a further five other vehicles, and caused the death of a pedestrian.

Another truck with Shenzhen Yingxing Cargo Transportation Co. collided with an electric bike when turning at an intersection on Pingxi Road in Longgang District on Oct. 3, causing the death of the female rider of the bike and an 8-year-old passenger on the bike.

In another accident on the same day, a truck with Shenzhen Baohengtong Construction Engineering Co. killed a woman after crashing into her while making a turn on a road in Pingshan.

The last horrible accident happened Sunday, when a truck with Shenzhen Jinchuan Earth and Stone Engineering Co. knocked down a lamp post and a road guide post on Shangchuan Road in Bao’an District. The lamppost damaged a car, while the road guide post flew into a female pedestrian, who was later pronounced dead.

Eight other companies that failed to meet the city’s work safety standards will also be suspended from operation. Around 1,000 trucks will be affected in the business suspension and rectification that will last until the end of the month. The city’s transport commission said it would extend the suspension period if necessary. (Han Ximin)
