    Theft of personal info

Police in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, have detained a total of 450 suspects since June in a special operation, code-named* Anwang-7, after busting criminal gangs allegedly stealing personal data of local residents.

More than 790 computers and mobile phones, in addition to 230 million pieces of personal data, were seized in 120 cases involving the stealing of personal information, according to Dai Zili, political commissar* of the Internet police with Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security. Police in Zhongshan detained five suspects, all bank clerks, after busting a criminal gang that stole and illegally sold personal data.

    Building collapse

Ten people died after four residential buildings in Wenzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province, collapsed on early Monday morning.

Rescuers are still verifying the number of people buried under debris. The disaster happened around 4 a.m. in Wenzhou’s Lucheng industrial district. As of 2:30 p.m., 15 people were pulled out from under the debris, but 10 of them were announced dead.

    Illegal bird-hunting

Illegal bird-hunting inspection teams have been sent to Hebei Province and Tianjin Municipality by the State forestry administration of China following reports that trammel* nets as long as 10,000 meters are being used to capture birds, the Beijing Youth Daily reported on Sunday.

The inspection teams are a response to earlier reports of conservation volunteers finding illegal bird hunting activities in two large areas of Tianjin and Tangshan of Hebei Province in North China.

    Unified warning system

A unified grading standard for heavy pollution warnings will be adopted in China’s very polluted Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region by the end of October, which may effectively tackle the region’s deteriorating air quality.

“The Beijing-Tianjin-Heibei region has suffered three long-term and large-scale bouts* of air pollution since last winter. Though the level of air pollution may be similar to that in many cities, the different warning systems of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei have hindered the joint effort to curb smog,” said an official.(SD-Agencies)
