Skydivers fly into unusual 360-degree rainbow
    2016-10-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SKYDIVER has captured a spectacular 360-degree rainbow as he was freefalling over the Bay of Islands in New Zealand.

The 29-year-old Anthony Killeen from the U.K. saw the stunning optical phenomenon on his very first skydive from 16,000 feet (4,876 m) with an instructor from Skydive Bay of Islands Oct. 3.

The ring of colors framed the picturesque landscape below in an amazing spectacle.

Rainbows are all circular in theory, but are usually only half-visible from ground level.

Catching a rare glimpse of a fully circular rainbow requires the viewer to have a more extreme vantage point, and good timing.

“It was unbelievable,” Killeen said. “We were both ecstatic, laughing together, and kept circling so we could keep looking at it.”

Killeen said the rainbow kept its form until it was time to descend and land. “I honestly can’t think of a better word to describe it other than amazing.”

“We came out of the cloud and I caught the first glimpse of the rainbow and within a few seconds my skydiving instructor pulled the parachute.

“It jerks you around for a few seconds and I was frantically trying to spot the rainbow again. We steadied ourselves and caught it all on camera.”
