    Singer detained

    CHINESE folk singer-songwriter Song Dongye was detained in Beijing on Thursday afternoon for possessing and using drugs. Song, a native of Beijing who will turn 29 soon, reportedly bought marijuana online. Other drugs were also found in his home.

    Song, best known for songs like “Miss Dong,” said he started to use drugs two years ago, hoping drugs would boost his inspiration.

    His album “North of Anhe Bridge” won the music award of Luxun Culture Awards in 2013.

    Tour made $250m

    BEYONCE’s Formation World Tour, which wrapped Oct. 7, took in over US$256,084,556 and sold 2.2 million tickets. The tour, which began April 27 at Marlins Park in Miami, averaged a whopping US$5.2 million in gross and 45,757 paid attendance per show.

    The highest-grossing stop on the tour came from two sellouts at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 2-3 that took in US$15.3 million and sold 142,500 tickets.

    Award winners

    “MALARIA” by Iranian director Parviz Shahbazi was awarded the Grand Prix of the 32nd Warsaw International Film Festival, which drew to a close in the Polish capital Saturday.

    Guomundur Arnar Guomundsson collected the best director’s award for the Icelandic/Danish co-production “Hjartasteinn” (“Heartstone”). The special jury award went to actor Ahmad Thaher for his role in Mahmoud al Massad’s “Inshalla Istafadet” (“Blessed Benefit”), co-produced by Jordan, Germany and the Netherlands.

    Baby welcomed

    OLIVIA WILDE and Jason Sudeikis welcomed their second child, Daisy Josephine Sudeikis, on Oct. 11, which just so happened to be the International Day of the Girl. Wilde and Sudeikis have been together since 2011 and also share a son, Otis Alexander Sudeikis, who was born in April 2014.

    Ethan Hawke starrer

    THE people’s choice award, announced at the Vancouver Film Festival on Saturday, went to Aisling Walsh’s “Maudie,” which stars Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke. The most popular international feature was Ken Loach’s “I, Daniel Blake,” the Palme d’Or winner at Cannes. Asghar Farhadi’s Iranian drama “The Salesman,” which earned the Golden Bear prize in Berlin, was the runner-up in the international feature category.
