ALL you need to do is look at Instagram to know that avocado is still all the rage. The superfood, most commonly seen smashed onto toast, is so popular that California is seeing a shortage of the fruit. However, one man, Boris Toledo from Chile, is taking a different approach when it comes to embracing good old avo. Rather than just smashing the avocado onto toast any old way, the artist creates realistic portraits of celebrities and cartoon characters. “One day I wondered if it was possible to make drawings with it ... so I did,” Toledo said. He started working with the mashed avocado on a plate and was quite happy with the result, snapping a photo. The artist said that the first time he did one of the works it took him around six hours, which is a long time to wait for breakfast. But soon after, he got the time down to between one and two hours per artwork, once he got the hang of it. The idea, he said, was inspired by the fact he eats avocado every day. He doesn’t let it go to waste either, and scrapes the superfood onto toast after taking a photo of the portrait. So far Toledo has tackled a number of faces, from singers Lorde and Amy Winehouse to old-school beauty Marilyn Monroe.(SD-Agencies) |
