A: Hey, I heard that you broke your leg falling off the balcony at that party.
B: True, but YOLO.
Note: This acronym, which has been added to the Oxford Dictionary, is the abbreviation for “You only live once.” The saying was first recorded in the 19th century, as French novelist Balzac used it in “Cousin Pons.” It has become a popular Twitter hashtag. Some youth have said that it is their motto, and actor Zac Efron has a tattoo with the acronym. Similar to “carpe diem” or “memento mori,” it implies that one should enjoy life, even if that entails taking risks. Interestingly, the Urban Dictionary comments that YOLO is an “excuse for something stupid that someone did.”
