Camper van couple travels the world
    2016-10-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BRITISH couple have braved howling wolves and clocked up more than 75,000 miles (120,700 km) while traveling across the world in a tiny camper van.

Adventurous Lauren Winslow-Llewellyn, 27, and Craig Hubbard, 33, both from Brighton, have been enjoying the holiday of a lifetime for the past eight years.

The pair, who met while waiting tables together at a branch of Pizza Express, are currently making their way through North America but have previously traveled through Australia, Asia, Canada, Central and South America, New Zealand and Europe.

However, while their scenery has been never ending their accommodation has been a complete contrast.

Lauren and Craig have been cooped up in a 60-square-feet (5.6-square-meter) camper van they call Daphne, a petrol Dodge Ram 1500 primetime bought for £2,900 (US$3,519).

Big enough to squeeze in a double bed, but not much else, Daphne has been home for the past eight years on a voyage that if stretched out, would see the couple circle the planet three times.

Most couples would find a week in such cramped conditions a stress on their relationship, but Lauren said the couple managed to make it work — just.

She said, “We’ve been together for over nine years and eight of those have been traveling. Of course we bicker and argue, but we have nowhere to escape one another, no spare room to go to, so we just have to get over it and move on — knowing that I’m always right!

“The secret is we both love the same things. We’re used to ‘van life’ and love the lifestyle. Normal day-to-day life can be stressful with careers, children and bills, but without them our life is quite stress-free!”

The couple saved up £5,000 when they first embarked on their journey, kicking off their voyage with Australia, and say they keep their costs down with cheap day trips to beaches and free sightseeing.

Lauren and Craig decided to document the latest leg of their trip, traveling from Canada, then into Alaska and ending in Hawaii, with stunning pictures.

Craig explained America’s vast mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, lush forests and idyllic beaches make traveling in their cramped van worth the space sacrifice.

He said, “There’s no denying it’s a little on the small side; moving around while bent over or kneeling on the floor to cook takes some time to master but you get used to it and it’s just like a mini-home.”(SD-Agencies)
