Man’s foot saved with skin tissue transplant
    2016-November-2  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MIRACLE occurred when doctors at a hospital in Yantian District restored the left foot of a patient who was expecting amputation following a car accident, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

The patient, surnamed Li, was brought to Yantian District People’s Hospital on Aug. 25 after his left foot was severely injured in the car accident. Li and his family were in despair when Huang Jinhe, an on-duty doctor, told them that Li might have to lose his left foot since the skin tissue on his foot had been damaged.

Li has to do manual labor jobs to support his family, so a leading doctor at the hospital named Xu Jun thought of an alternative plan to keep Li’s foot. With the help of microsurgery experts from Hunan Province, Xu and other doctors successfully restored Li’s injured foot by transplanting flaps of skin from his thigh onto his left foot.

After two months of nursing care, Li can walk with the help of a crutch. He will soon be discharged from the hospital after rehabilitation training.

“I want to show my gratitude to the doctors who have given a second life to my father, for saving his left foot so that he can live a normal life again,” Li’s son said. (Zhang Yang)
