Guzheng recital by Wang Zhongshan
    2016-November-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Guzheng master Wang Zhongshan will give a recital of Chinese folk.

Wang’s music is insightful and sensitive, expressing a lyrical and vibrant timbre. He is acclaimed for his easy, relaxed playing that belies the virtuosity and control in him, and his commanding stage presence and flair. He is considered one of the most influential guzheng artists in China.

Famous virtuoso and educationist in zheng music, Wang is on the faculty of the China Conservatory. He has invented new fingering techniques, plucking with finger-plectrums on both hands, multiple finger rolling and left-hand rolling. Together they have opened up a new vista for guzheng music. Some of his compositions have been included in the syllabi of the China Conservatory and the Central Conservatory of Music, and as examination pieces at many national accreditation institutes. Many of his students have won national and international competitions.

Wang has given many solo recitals and lectures in Southeast Asia, Europe and America. His publications include books and CDs as teaching aids.

The guzheng, also known as Chinese zither, is a traditional plucked musical string instrument that is over 2,500 years old. It has 16 (or more) strings and movable bridges. The modern guzheng usually has 21 strings.
