Chen Xiaochun 654789759@qq.com THURSDAY was the second day of the 2016 China Hi-Tech Fair, and as usual it attracted a lot of people. When walking around the exhibition halls, Shenzhen Daily reporter found that VR remains an attention catcher. “It is still not perfectly clear, because the resolution is not high enough. One problem is that, basically all the VR headsets currently on the market use one screen, and software splits the screen into two parts instead of using two screens. Next year, we’ll put two small screens into the headset which will raise the resolution,” said Zhang Zhen, key customer manager of Whaley VR, a Shanghai-based company specializing in VR technology. Zhang said that another problem is the filming equipment. He said that there are not many 360-degree cameras available in the market that can be used for filming and the technology is not very mature, but things will gradually improve. “Next year, we’ll also develop position tracking so when you move in the real world, you move in the virtual world simultaneously,” added Zhang. After testing the wearable tech, one visitor commented that the device was quite clear, better than some other products though not as clear as the HTC ones, which are also more expensive. Another booth that attracted a lot of people was a VR mini theme park set up by Guangzhou Longcheng Electronic Co. Ltd., which develops, produces and sells all the products. Zeng Meizhen works with the company, and he agreed that the goggles were not clear enough but pointed out that it was on pace with the current technology, “but most of our equipment, like the gun-play, use HTC Vive VR headsets, so [the experience] is clearer.” Zeng said that the VR market is very hot nowadays, both domestically and internationally. “We sell several hundred units every month, with prices ranging from 30,000 yuan (US$4,368) to 80,000 yuan, depending on the configuration.” A visitor, surnamed Li, experienced the gun-play and said that everything was good, and he loved the experience. “I felt like I was in the scene. It’s different from traditional games and you do activities at the same time. But the content of the game and the screen resolution could be improved. Another thing is that there was a cable connected to the top of the headset, which hinders your movement. Also, when you wear the headset, you might ignore the real environment around you, which might pose a safety risk,” said Li. |
