NICK YOUNG hit a three-pointer with five seconds to play to give the Lakers, who had surrendered a 14-point lead in the final minutes, a 111-109 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
Young finished with 17 points and Jordan Clarkson had 18 for the Lakers, who survived a frenetic performance by Russell Westbrook in the final minutes.
After Westbrook scored 17 points in a five-minute span to trim the Lakers’ lead to one point, Steven Adams scored on a putback of Westbrook’s miss with 13.9 seconds to play to put the Thunder ahead 109-108.
The Lakers then passed the ball around the perimeter before Young drained his fourth three-pointer of the night.
Westbrook missed a long shot shortly before the buzzer. The Los Angeles native finished with 34 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds, barely missing his sixth triple-double of the season.
Timofey Mozgov scored 16 points for the Lakers, who ended a two-game skid with their seventh win in their past 11 games.
Adams had 20 points, including two baskets in the final minute, for the Thunder, who have lost six of eight.
Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell missed the game with a sore knee and also will sit out Los Angeles’ game against the Warriors in Oakland the next night.
Jose Calderon subbed for Russell and hit four three-pointers for a season-high 12 points.
Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets beat the Chicago Bulls 110-107. Rookie Jamal Murray scored a season-high 24 points, and Will Barton hit two free throws for host Denver with 9.5 seconds left.(SD-Agencies)
