THE CBS All Access reboot of “Star Trek” has added a crewmember. “Star Trek Discovery” has cast Michelle Yeoh, best known for Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” It’s unclear what role she will play. The show features the franchise’s Enterprise, now known as the U.S.S. Discovery. The drama will introduce new characters seeking new worlds and new civilizations while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966. Bryan Fuller stepped down from his role as showrunner on the digital series last month. The series also was pushed back from its January premiere to May, with CBS All Access also planning for its spinoff of “The Good Wife” (titled “The Good Fight”) to add to its original scripted series lineup. The platform currently is airing an all-digital season of “Big Brother.” Sources said the rest of the cast also will feature an openly gay actor as one of the male leads (which Fuller confirmed), a female admiral, a male Klingon captain, a male admiral, a male adviser and a British male doctor.(SD-Agencies) |
