The Third Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennale, a three-month cross-regional art event showcasing videos and talks, will open at C2 in OCT-LOFT on Friday. With “Time Based, Non-Places” as this year’s theme, the biennale seeks to address the time-based experience of spatial presentation. By gathering projects from internationally renowned artists, the biennale has compiled a global collection of digital images. Through consolidating films, videos and animations into a specific spatial experience, this can be seen as an extension of traditional media based on new media. Curated by Li Zhenhua, this year’s biennale consists of five sections: “Animation in Space,” “Special Screening,” “Live Animation,” “Nominated New Works,” “Talk & Symposium.”Animation in Space

By showing individual artists’ continued use of this medium, this project will demonstrate and explore the possibilities of this medium. It will also discuss the means of proliferation for GIFs apart from the Internet as well as how GIF finds its way into our public spaces, everyday life and artistic contexts through other ways of materialization.
