More than 600 rarely seen images and an hour-long video of life in Chaozhou and Shantou in the early 20th century are on display.
Researchers believe the video was shot in 1921-1939. The video has been the subject of a study conducted by the research team of Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images for about a year. The video shows signature Chaoshan-style architecture, clothes and accessories, cuisines and daily activities, extremely valuable for their research.
Shantou was significant in 19th-century Chinese history as one of the treaty ports established for Western trade and contact. Chaozhou borders Shantou to the south. Along with Shantou and Jieyang, Chaozhou is part of the Chaoshan region in eastern Guangdong.
