‘Tokyo Trials’ honored at ATA
    2016-12-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A DOCUMENTARY series “The Tokyo Trials” produced by Shanghai Media Group (SMG) has been awarded the best documentary series at the Asian Television Awards in Singapore on Friday.

The awarded series, produced by an all-female team who was behind an Emmy award-winning project, aired last year.

The documentary has three parts covering the Tokyo trials, also known as the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal, which tried the leaders of the Japanese Empire for war crimes in 1946.

“The Smokeless War” introduced the Tokyo trials, focusing on three well-known trials. “The Judgment Beyond Winners” put a positive spin on the controversial parts during the trials. The last part, “Unforgettable Memories,” viewed the events from the perspectives of the Chinese delegation and their children and grandchildren.

Many video materials of great historical value collected from the United States were shown in China for the first time.

He Qinhua, former principal of East China University of Political Science and Law, thought the documentary showed the profound research done on the subject matter.

“Star of China,” another SMG-produced singing competition show, was named best music show at the awards.

Started in 1995, the annual TV event awards winners in 40 categories, covering news and entertainment in all aspects of television. (SD-Agencies)
