    Smuggler arrested

A SMUGGLER, who hid drugs inside his body, was caught by police before making a deal recently in Bao’an District.

The Shenzhen smuggler contacted a middle man on WeChat and followed his instructions to go to the Sino-Burmese border area. After being trained to hide drugs inside his body by a drug-trafficking gang, the smuggler was given 114.3 grams of heroin in thumb-sized capsules to swallow and sneaked into China in July.

    Run for charity

SHENZHEN Project Care Foundation received 120,000 yuan (US$17,391) in donations Tuesday, which was raised by the Shenzhen Nanshan Half Marathon 2016 organizing committee.

The half marathon, which was held Nov. 27 and attracted over 15,000 participants — including 346 philanthropic runners — raised 121,100 yuan. The donations will be used to help left-behind children in Shaoguan and Lechang cities in Guangdong by improving their sports facilities and funding football activities.

    Fake watches

LUOHU Customs recently caught four people smuggling brand-name watches from around the world into Chinese mainland in three separate cases, customs said Monday.

On Nov. 29, a man was caught with 44 watches of the brands of Rolex, Longines and Omega. The watches were later confirmed to be fake products and the man claimed he wanted to give them to friends as gifts.

On Nov. 30, customs officers found 26 Longines watches in the backpack of another traveler who hadn’t declared them to customs. On the same day, two men were caught carrying 142 and 108 watches including the brands of Burberry, Armani and Marc Jacobs to cross the border.

    Jaywalkers fined

NINETY jaywalkers were fined in a police action in Longhua New Area over the weekend.

Police in Longhua have launched a two-month action targeting pedestrian violations.
