LOOK familiar? No one would blame you if they didn’t, but these are supposed to be sculptures of some of the world’s most famous figures. The Great Stone Face Sculpture Park resides in a 20-acre (8-hectare) garden on the grounds of a South Korean mental hospital. Meant to resemble famous politicians, economists and revolutionaries, the sculptures are owned by Chung Guen-hee, of Eumseong, South Korea. For some 20 years, Chung has been ordering 12-foot-high (3.6-meter-high) busts, which are meant to be tributes to famous people from around the world, from a sculpting school he owns in China. He has them shipped to the grounds of a psychiatric hospital and elderly care facility that he owns in Eumseong. Chung told the Wall Street Journal: “No matter where you go in the world, you can’t see this many great figures in one place.” He said that he started the unusual collection as something to amuse patients and their families. However, over time, it started attracting schoolchildren and tourists alike. A single sculpture costs a minimum of US$10,000 to be produced and shipped to the garden.(SD-Agencies) |
