SHENZHEN’S weather will cool down starting Friday with a low temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.
One or two cold fronts will affect the city in December and the first half of January, the observatory said.
Meteorologists say that winter can be divided into two stages between December and February. The average temperature and the overall weather is relatively warm before mid-January, despite one or two strong cold fronts that will cool temperatures to around 10 degrees Celsius or below. This temperature decline usually takes place between the middle of December and the beginning of January.
The observatory estimates that a drastic temperature drop will occur in the second half of January after the start of the Spring Festival transportation rush that falls on Jan. 13.
It is expected that sustained cold and rainy weather will come along with a daily average temperature of around 10 degrees Celsius in the second half of January. The low could reach five degrees Celsius in the week before the Spring Festival holiday.
The observatory advised travelers that are going home for holidays and residents staying in Shenzhen to stay up to date on the weather as the January cold may cause frost and make the roads in northern Guangdong icy during the Spring Festival holiday rush.
