Top 10 cycle routes  in Sz (II)
    2016-12-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WHILE people in northern China are either braving the cold weather or struggling with the smog, folks in Shenzhen are much luckier with genial sunlight and warm breezes kissing their faces. There’s no better time to enjoy the great outdoors, and what’s the best way to get around while enjoying the pristine environment? Cycling! So gear up and let the steep climbs and fast descents keep you company.Jiaochangwei-Xichong

    Longgang District

Located in the east of Shenzhen, Dapeng Peninsula is surrounded by sea on three sides, to the northeast of Hong Kong. The peninsula is close to Daya Bay in the east, bordering on Huizhou, and embraces Dapeng Bay in the west. To best appreciate the splendor of the coastline, Jiaochangwei is a coastal village that you definitely don’t want to miss. There are plenty of B&Bs and seafood restaurants to give you a leisurely break from the city.

Starting in Jiaochangwei and ending in Xichong, the 20-kilometer tour passes through the mountainous areas along the coastline and features a 200-meter climb.

After the downhill section, you will be right on Xichong Beach where BBQs and camping sites are on offer. You can also spend the night in the little cabins that dot the beach.

    Dalang Greenway

    Longhua District

Among all the cycling greenways in Shenzhen, there is none better than Dalang Greenway, which starts in Qiankeng Reservoir and ends in the Hudie Valley (or the portal of Guanguang Road Tunnel).

The whole route, with constant ups and downs, is well-paved and well-equipped. So it is suitable for both ambitious cyclists looking for a serious challenge and those who prefer a laid-back ride.

The area is relatively rocky with many footpaths so it’s not easy to ride through. But cyclists can hit the fire forest belt, which starts from the west on Ejing Reservoir and ends around Dashuikeng Reservoir. However, the relaxing pristine environment comes with a price — tough uphill climbs. The areas around Ejing Reservoir come recommended.

    Fenghuang Mountain

    Bao’an Distrcit

With an elevation of 376 meters and gentle slopes, Fenghuang Mountain is perfect for beginners to practice climbing. The tour is about 10 to 15 km. Cyclists can choose whichever section they like based on their destinations. Along the route, cyclists may encounter many footpaths, but don’t worry, just let the clear signposts be your guide.

Fenghuang Mountain is quite biker-friendly, for the developers specially carved out a road for bikers. It’s easy to get to the mountain if you have a bike, a comfortable shirt and some patience and perseverance. But when you go downhill, do remember to use the brakes whenever necessary, for there is only a thin line between thrill and danger.

Route: National Highway 107 — Xuezi Road — Fenghuang Mountain Greenway — Fuzhou Boulevard — Fuyong Boulevard — National Highway 107 (Yang Mei)
