Wall collapse kills 1

    ONE worker was killed and another was injured when a wall collapsed at a construction site in Longhua New Area over the weekend. Several workers were digging a cable duct Dec. 9 when the surrounding brick wall suddenly collapsed and buried two of them in the ditch.

    New campus

    A SHENZHEN campus of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine will be established in Pingshan New Area, according to a cooperation agreement signed by the university and the administrative committee of Pingshan New Area.

    The university and the Pingshan government will jointly develop an outpatient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) department, as well as setting TCM a core discipline and forming a large-scale and complete higher education system from bachelor’s degree to Ph.D. The Shenzhen school will begin enrolling undergraduate students in 2019, when the first stage of campus infrastructure construction is completed. In the long term, the campus will have 9,000 to 10,000 students.

    Corrupt official

    WANG YANG, a former chairman and Party chief of Shenzhen Airport Group, has been removed from his post and expelled from the Party for serious disciplinary violations, Shenzhen Party disciplinary inspection commission said on its official website.

    An investigation revealed that Wang had allegedly abused his power to offer help with project biddings in exchange for bribes. Wang’s case has been handed to the juridical department for further investigation.

    Intercity rail

    AN intercity railway connecting Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen is expected to open in 2018.

    The 86.62-km intercity rail has 15 stations, and a single trip will take about one hour as the rail is designed to travel at 140 kilometers per hour.

    Gas explosion

    A MOTHER and her two sons, aged 6 and 2, were seriously injured in a gas explosion that occurred when they were unlocking the door of their rental apartment in Bao’an District last week.

    The three suffered serious burns and are being treated at Bao’an People’s Hospital.

    The mother allegedly forgot to turn off the gas oven when she went out with the kids. The gas that leaked from the gas cylinder accumulated and exploded when the woman returned home and unlocked the door.
