    裸条

    luǒtiáo

Meaning: "裸" means "naked," and "条" is short for "借条," which means "IOU." In June this year, news spread online that shady Internet lenders in China coerced female college students to provide nude pictures of themselves with their ID cards held in hand as collateral for loans. The nude photos used as IOUs are called "裸条." The lenders, who charged hefty service fees and interest rates, threatened to send the images to their families if the borrowers failed to repay their loans. An online leak of nude photographs and videos, involving 10GB file of 167 women from across China, mostly aged between 19 and 23, drew people's attention to this issue again earlier this month.

    Example:

    A: 真不明白为什么有人愿意裸条贷款。

Zhēn bù míngbái wèishénme yǒurén yuànyì luǒtiáo dàikuǎn。

I don't understand why people are willing to use their nude photos as collateral for loans.

    B: 她们只想借钱满足一时的欲望,根本没考虑这样做的严重后果。

Tāmen zhǐ xiǎng jièqián mǎnzú yīshí de yùwàng, gēnběn méi kǎolǜ zhèyàng zuò de yánzhòng hòuguǒ。

They want to immediately satisfy their desire for something that can be purchased by money, but never consider the serious consequences of their decision.
