A night of jazz
    2016-December-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chinese saxophonist Li Gaoyang will collaborate with double bassist Hu Hao, drummer Adam Nussbaum, guitarist Chen Hongwei and pianist Carl Winther to present a night of jazz.

Li has studied jazz with many master musicians like Jerry Bergonzi and George Garzone. He is skilled in tenor saxophone and soprano saxophone with rich experience in improvising, and, together with his band, played at many international events and jazz festivals. He is also an educator and composer.

Son of the world-famous composer and trumpet player Jens Winther, the award-winning pianist Carl Winther has toured with performers such as Billy Hart, Daniel Humiar and Afonso Corea. His performances are breathtaking and virtuous. He has a fluent ability to improvise and at the same time his compositions are precise and extravagant.

U.S. drummer Nussbaum joined Dave Liebman’s quintet in 1978. During the early 1980s he worked with John Scofield in a celebrated trio with Steve Swallow. In 1983 he became a member of the Gil Evans Orchestra and also played with Stan Getz. He later joined the Eliane Elias/Randy Brecker Quartet, Gary Burton, and Toots Thielemans. In 1987 he began touring with the Michael Brecker Quintet. In 1988 they recorded the Grammy-winning “Don’t Try This at Home.” In 1992 Nussbaum was part of the Carla Bley Big Band and that same year John Abercrombie hired him to complete his organ trio.

Nussbaum has taught as an adjunct professor at New York University, the New School and the State University of New York at Purchase. He holds master classes around the world.
