    Corrupt official jailed

    LI ZHENGUANG, a former department chief of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for corruption.

    Li abused his power in 12 scientific funding projects and took cash gifts totaling 3.66 million yuan (US$530,000). Li was also fined 500,000 yuan.

    Parallel traders seized

    HUANGGANG Customs checked 1,975 suspected smugglers in a special action at Futian Checkpoint last weekend. The smuggled goods included aerodynamic guns, bird nest products, seafood, as well as electronic products such as cell phones, CPUs and game consoles.

    University collaboration

    CITY University of Shenzhen signed a cooperation framework agreement with King’s College London on Dec. 12 to lay a foundation for the local university’s road toward internationalizing education.

    Located in Luohu District, City University of Shenzhen is the city’s first private university, with the creative characteristic of establishing many professional schools to cultivate talents to meet the economic and social development of Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta. Under the agreement, both parties will share information and resources to collaborate in the promotion and establishment of two schools under City University — Massive Health and Internet of Things. Additionally, King’s College London will provide support to City University in many other educational and teaching areas.

    November CPI

    THE city’s consumer price index (CPI), a primary gauge of inflation, in November increased by 2.6 percent year on year, statistics from the Shenzhen survey office of the National Bureau of Statistics showed Sunday.
