    River chiefs

China will appoint local government heads as river chiefs across the nation to clean up and protect its water resources, said guidelines published by Chinese central authorities on Sunday.

Much as mayors and county heads are responsible for their beats, river chiefs will be responsible for the management and protection of the watercourses*, according to a government document.

    HK election committee

All the members of the election committee that is responsible for choosing next chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), were elected on Monday.

Around 1,200 newly elected members under 38 subsectors will vote for Hong Kong’s next chief executive in March 2017. Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission of Hong Kong Fung Wah said about 107,000 registered voters have cast their votes.

    School bullying

A Beijing mother’s article describing how her 10-year-old son was bullied at school went viral*, bringing back memories for Chinese people who were bullied and triggering widespread discussion on parenting.

Zhongguancun Second Primary School, a renowned primary school in Haidian District, on Saturday morning issued a statement saying it has been communicating with parents on both sides, and called for the public to let the school handle the situation. After having a toilet waste-paper basket thrown on his head and being mocked by other classmates, the fourth-grade boy was diagnosed with acute stress disorder, a mental illness characterized by severe anxiety.

    Death from overworking

More than half a million Chinese die from overworking each year, reported CCTV news. China has overtaken Japan topping the charts with the largest population who die from overworking, reaching a total of 600,000.

Statistics show that the group is much younger and covers many industries, such as media, advertisement, medical care and IT. The latest case revealed by media was a 24-year-old engineer, whose only bad habit was overwork, and he died after working frequently overtime.(SD-Agencies)
