Luohu tunnel work to start by year end
    2016-December-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CONSTRUCTION of Chunfeng Tunnel, which runs parallel to Chunfeng Flyover in the north, will start by the end of this year, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

Yu Baoming, head of the city’s transport commission, said that the project in Luohu District will break ground by the end of this year on a call-in radio program Tuesday. According to the construction plan, the trip from Shangbu Overpass to Xinxiu Overpass will take only six minutes after the tunnel is completed.

The 4.65-kilometer double-layer tunnel, with a designed speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour, will link Binhe Boulevard and the Eastern Cross-border Expressway. The Xinxiu and Luofang overpasses will also be renovated to make travel between Luohu and Yantian districts faster, according to the city’s transport commission.

Yu said a renovation project involving investment of 320 million yuan (US$46 million) on Binhe Boulevard will be launched to ease traffic congestion on the boulevard. Another renovation project will be launched on Qiaoxiang Road that links Beihuan Boulevard and Xiangmei Road.

Yu said that the government is also planning to build a new road linking Nanping Expressway and Dapeng Peninsula to smooth traffic flow to the city’s eastern regions during holidays. The road is planned to go from Longping Overpass in Longgang District to Kuizheng Road West in Dapeng New Area, according to the report.

The city government will spend 188.4 billion yuan on road infrastructure construction during the 13th Five-year Plan period from 2016 to 2020, with 176 kilometers of new expressways and 192 kilometers of new trunk roads to be constructed by 2020.
