Disney’s live action ‘Cruella’ finds director
    2016-12-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“MOZART of the Jungle” co-creator and theater director Alex Timbers is in negotiations to helm “Cruella,” Disney’s live-action reimagining of the “101 Dalmatians” character that will star Emma Stone.

Stone will play infamous villain Cruella De Vil in what is being billed as an origin story, set in the 1980s.

De Vil was first seen in the 1961 animated classic. Glenn Close played her in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes that featured the character as the head of a fashion house.

Marc Platt is set to produce with Andrew Gunn. Kristin Burr and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for the studio.

“Cruella” is described as having both strong fashion and music sensibilities, something that seems to be a natural fit for Timbers.

He is a two-time Tony-nominee for directing “Peter and the Star Catcher” and directing and writing the book for the rock musical “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.” He also directed the Broadway musical adaptation of “Rocky.” (SD-Agencies)
