CHELSEA equaled a club record as the side made it 11 Premier League wins on the spin with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Diego Costa was the hero as he scored his 50th goal for the club to edge the Blues past Alan Pardew’s side at Selhurst Park.
The result moves the visitors an impressive nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with Arsenal in action against Manchester City later yesterday before Liverpool travels to Everton today.
Antonio Conte’s men were already guaranteed to be top of the pile at Christmas and the result over Palace only moves to strengthen their grip on top spot in the table.
And the win makes it an incredible 11 in a row in England’s top-flight, only the second time the Blues have managed that in their entire history.
The run has seen Chelsea pick up impressive victories against the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as the away win at Manchester City on Dec. 3.
This is also the only time in a single season that the Blues have won 11 matches in a row, with their last defeat in the league coming against Arsenal back in September.
Chelsea previously picked up 11 wins on the bounce back in 2009, spanning over two seasons before then-manager Carlo Ancelotti finally suffered defeat to Wigan Athletic.
Meanwhile, Manchester United attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two in Saturday’s 2-0 win over West Brom, maintaining his impressive run at Old Trafford.
The forward has now scored 16 goals in all competitions this season; 11 more than any teammate, Opta’s data shows.
Incredibly, only Ruud van Nistelrooy scored more goals in his first 16 Premier League appearances (12) than Ibrahimovic, who, with 11, is now level with Robin van Persie and Andy Cole.
The former Sweden talisman has netted in 100 of his 170 league games since the start of the 2011-12 season, scoring an awesome 152 goals in that period.
The promising figures for the Red Devils don’t stop with Ibrahimovic. Mourinho will be glad to see Wayne Rooney register his ninth assist in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, more than any other player.
The team is now unbeaten in eight Premier League games, having won and drawn four, its longest run without defeat in the competition since Jan. 1 2015, which lasted 10 matches.
