    Insurance beneficiaries

THE city’s social insurance fund management bureau has given out 180 million yuan (US$26 million) in two years to 16,700 insured patients covered by the city’s auxiliary insurance for critical and serious diseases.

Under the program, the insurance covers at least 70 percent of medicines and medical costs in the directory of insured drugs for patients with serious and terminal diseases after they have paid 10,000 yuan in costs at their own expense. It also applies to patients with 11 types of terminal diseases such as lung cancer by reimbursing up to 150,000 yuan a year and covering 70 percent of the medicines, which are not included in the directory of insured drugs.
