Former official stands trial over 7.5m-yuan scam
    2016-December-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A FORMER official with the Organization Department of Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPC stood trial at Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court on a charge of defrauding the family of a corrupt Shenzhen official.

Li Dingrong, former deputy chief of Shajing Subdistrict Office, was probed for serious disciplinary violations in October 2012.

Li’s family gave 7.5 million yuan (US$1.09 million) to a friend, named Wang Tiansheng, hoping that Li could be exempted from punishment.

Wang, a native of Hainan Province, then sought help from Li Yongxing, who once worked as the director of the organization department, and offered him 5.7 million yuan.

Li Yongxing, born in 1949, was once a colleague of Zhu Mingguo. Zhu was appointed as secretary of Law and Politics Commission of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC before Li Dingrong was probed.

The family hoped Wang could help them through Li Yongxing’s connection with Zhu, but the family realized that they were cheated after Li Dingrong was sentenced to 13 years in jail.

According to Li Yongxing, he hadn’t asked Zhu for help when he learned that Li Dingrong might have involved mafia crimes in Bao’an District.

Li Yongxing used the money to pay for his own expenses, including bank loans.

Zhu was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption last month.(Han Ximin, Yao Jiahui)
