A TRAFFIC accident involving four trucks that was caused by a private car driver on the Luotian section of Longda Expressway in Bao’an District yesterday morning has sent two drivers to the hospital for treatment.

The accident happened at around 7:50 a.m. when the car driver got out of his car to pick up his license plate after he crashed into a fence on the expressway. Four trucks failed to avoid the car and collided, police said on its official microblog yesterday.

The accident caused serious congestion during the morning rush hour.

According to a truck driver, the car driver who wanted to pick up the license plate that fell onto the ground was knocked down by a mini-truck. The truck driver, who was carrying sugar, slowed down and pulled over, but was unfortunately hit by another truck that was carrying 10-meter-long concrete posts. Another truck crashed into the truck carrying concrete posts, and the strong force of the concrete posts crushed the driver’s cabin, injuring the driver in the cockpit. White sugar also spilled on the expressway.

The car driver and one truck driver was injured, one of them sustaining serious injuries. The concrete posts that fell off the truck blocked three lanes of traffic and the emergency lane, disrupting the flow of traffic, police said.

    Police are still investigating.
