ALEC BALDWIN has revealed in an interview with The New York Times the details behind his recent stint portraying President-elect Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live.”

    The actor divulged his pay to the paper for appearing as Trump on NBC’s long-running late-night sketch show: US$1,400 an appearance.

    He also opened up about the keys to nailing down the impersonation. “I see a guy who seems to pause and dig for the more precise and better language he wants to use, and never finds it,” said Baldwin. “It’s the same dish — it’s a grilled-cheese sandwich rhetorically over and over again.”

    Baldwin’s portraiture of Trump has drawn the president-elect’s ire on social media, with Trump calling “SNL” “unwatchable” and “totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse” on his Twitter account earlier this month. Baldwin fired back with the statement, “Release your tax returns and I’ll stop.”

    Baldwin told the Times he plans to continue his impersonation on “SNL,” and possibly elsewhere, but his upcoming film schedule may make such appearances less frequent.

    Regarding comparisons that have been drawn between Baldwin, who received harsh criticism after leaving an infamous voicemail for his daughter eight years ago, and Trump’s controversial statements, the actor told the paper: “The difference is, with Trump, it’s incontrovertible that he has said the things he’s said. And he ran on them.”
