Police seize drugs of high purity in Bao’an
    2016-December-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN police recently seized over 5,200 grams of heroin worth 20 million yuan (US$2.88 million) in Bao’an District, sznews.com reported.

The purity level of the drugs ferreted out reached 99.99 percent, which is rare in recent years. The hunt for the drugs and traffickers also led to the bust of a transnational drug-dealing case.

The Bao’an District Public Security Sub-bureau was tipped off that a drug-dealing group would deliver a batch of drugs to Hong Kong via Shenzhen.

Following the information provided, the Bao’an police paid particular attention to a man surnamed He, who owned a vacant apartment in Luohu District, while living in a small rental apartment.

The police learned that He and a Hong Kong resident were about to make the drug deal after watching him for a period of time. The police caught the two suspects red-handed as they were trading the drugs in Shenzhen. More than 700 grams of heroin were seized at the scene.

A police officer from the sub-bureau said that they had interrogated He in the car and the suspect admitted that he had stored other drugs at his apartment.

In total, over 5,200 grams of heroin was found. To avoid inspection, each block of the drug was over-packaged. The most stunning fact about the drugs was the high level of purity.

According to the police, the purity level of the drugs directly affects their addictiveness. Thus, this batch would have caused unimaginable damage to society if it had been sold. The police suspected that the drugs’ origin was the Golden Triangle area.

The investigation group later found out that a transnational group was behind the dealing of these drugs. The police disclosed that this batch was originally transferred from Thailand because it was hard for the drug dealers to deliver the drugs to Hong Kong via shipping, so they conveyed the drugs to Shenzhen via Guangxi, and then to Hong Kong.

Following the clues, the Shenzhen police cooperated with other police forces to bust the transnational drug-dealing group. (Zhang Qian)
