Not have a leg to stand on
    2016-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A: What did your lawyer suggest for the case?

B: He said I did not have a leg to stand on, so I shouldn’t sue the company.

Note: This idiom means “having no reasonable or logical basis for an opinion or argument.” This American idiom is inspired by the simple fact that in order to stand up erect and firm, one needs a pair of strong legs. American basketball players sometimes talk of “not having their legs under them” after a few minutes of play. That means they lack the stamina needed to last the whole game.

People also say that certain rumors have no legs. If someone or something doesn’t have a leg to stand on, they stand little chance of being successful.
