THREE graduates from Shenzhen University (SZU) represented their company to donate 10 million yuan (US$1.4 million) to their alma mater yesterday for the university’s education and development foundation.
The fund was donated by the alumni to be used specifically for operating the online donation platform of the university’s education and development foundation, making it more convenient for alumni to raise donations online in different forms. The total donation will be completed over 10 years, with 1 million yuan donated each year.
Both the university president, Li Qingquan, and one of the founders of the alumni company, Shen Zhanjun, delivered speeches before signing the donation contract.
Li said that the alumni of SZU held strong emotional connections with the university, due to the unique culture the university has developed. He further encouraged the SZU students to start businesses with the help of the university and make contributions to both society and the university.
Shen expressed gratitude for SZU and introduced the company’s plan for the future. Since their company, Snewfly Innovation and Management Co., was born in the entrepreneurship park of SZU students, he appreciated the help and guidance the university provided along the way, which created a wonderful condition and environment for the student entrepreneurs.
According to Shen, their company aimed at creating an online cooperation platform for all SZU alumni, in order to encourage a wider sharing of resources, establish closer connections within alumni networks and set up a better bridge for communication between alumni and the university.
Snewfly, the company co-established by these three SZU alumni, started by designing products for the disabled, and then expanded into the fields of education and technology incubation. Now, they also provide online platform operation services and offer help to SZU in operating such programs as the online donation platform of the education and development foundation, Longgang Innovation Institute of SZU and SZU Alumni Square.
The entrepreneurship park of SZU students, which was set up in 2009 to assist SZU’s student entrepreneurs, has helped students develop their careers by evaluating the possibility and value of their businesses, providing relevant forums and trainings, updating the latest information about entrepreneurship competitions and conducting regular appraisals of students’ businesses.
