A HUGE Christmas decoration at MixC Mall in Luohu District was blown down by strong wind Tuesday night, injuring two women and a man, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.
One of the women, surnamed Zhan, said that she and her friends were passing by the 2-meter-high N-shaped decoration when it suddenly fell down.
A weather report showed that there were strong winds in Shenzhen on Tuesday night that reached force 6 or 7.
Zhan and her female friend were hit directly by the decoration, while the man was slightly injured.
Zhan said that her head was bleeding after her whole body was pinned down. “Our friends dragged us from beneath the decoration after calling for help,” she said.
Zhan underwent an operation Wednesday after she was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, pelvic fractures and head trauma at Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital.
“My body is still in pain,” Zhan said Wednesday, adding that staff members from MixC have visited her at the hospital and dealt with the aftermath.
Her friend, surnamed Ji, was hospitalized at a Luohu hospital and attended to by a nurse. Ji was diagnosed with a bone fracture on her head and was receiving conservative treatments.
According to MixC, the company took the injured to hospitals after the accident and paid for their medical bills. The company said that it was still investigating the cause of the accident, and it will conduct a safety check on all of the decorations at the mall. (Zhang Yang)
