    Rescue on reef

RESCUERS had to use scaling ladders to rescue five tourists who were trapped on the reef in Dapeng Peninsula on Sunday.

The tourists were hiking from Dongchong to Xichong along the coastline. But in darkness, they were trapped on the reef by waves and sought help. The hikers were rescued by the firefighting unit of Nan’ao Subdistrict Government.

    False report

A MAN lied to police in Yantian District, saying he had lost 100,000 yuan (US$14,493), hoping to find his girlfriend.

The man, surnamed Wang, reported to police Dec. 27 that he suspected 100,000 yuan in his apartment had been taken by his girlfriend, surnamed Peng. Peng was caught in Dongguan on Dec. 28 but said she didn’t even know that Wang had 100,000 yuan at home.

Wang was detained for 10 days after admitting to lying.

    Suspicious cheat

A TECHNOLOGY company in Shenzhen was accused of using IDs and bank cards of their employees to get loans from banks.

About 20 employees were said to have accrued debts with a bank ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 yuan after their employer used their IDs to apply for loans. According to one employee, the company management demanded the employees to hand in their ID cards, bank cards and provided phone verification codes Dec. 28 without giving an explanation. Some of them received loan messages from Pudong Development Bank in the afternoon.

    Police are investigating.
