Chinese paintings
He Xiangning Art Museum reopened Nov. 18 with a fresh exhibition, featuring paintings by 11 Chinese masters who had been greatly influenced by their studies in Japan in 1905-1937. The 11 masters at the exhibition are Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, Chen Shuren, Guan Liang, Zhu Qizhan, Chen Zhifo, Ding Yanyong, Feng Zikai, Fang Rending, Li Xiongcai and Fu Baoshi. During their time in Japan, they were exposed to the synthesis of Western and Nihonga (traditional Japanese style) approaches in the contemporary Japanese art world.

Animation biennale
The Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennale is a cross-regional art event showcasing artists’ independent thought and critical thinking. It presents artists’ freedom of approach and their adaptation of new narration and focuses on video art presented with other disciplines such as installation, projection and digital art. With “Time Based, Non-Places” as this year’s theme, the biennale seeks to address the time-based experience of spatial presentation.
