THE Spring Festival travel peak for people to return home from Shenzhen will be the coldest period of the year, while the post-festival period for returning to Shenzhen will see rainy and foggy days, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

Two rounds of cold air will affect the city between Jan. 13 and 15 and from Jan. 22 to 24, bringing temperatures down to 10 degrees Celsius.

During the holiday, between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2, the weather will be stable and average temperatures will stay at 16-17 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature will reach 11-12 degrees Celsius and there will be light rain in the latter part of the holiday.

The cold air will be reinforced from Feb. 3 to 21 and the city will experience a prolonged period of low temperatures and wet days, with an average temperature at around 10 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperatures dropping to 7-9 degrees Celsius.

“There may be freezing weather between Jan. 13 and 18 in the northern mountainous areas of Guangdong, and a cold spell may affect northern Guangdong between Feb. 13 and 17,” Shenzhen Metrological Observatory said, reminding travelers to stay updated about the weather.
