    Parking violation

A MAN whose car blocked traffic at the Sun Yat-sen Cardiovascular Hospital was fined 500 yuan (US$72.22) Tuesday.

This was the first fine for a parking violation in a parking lot since a new regulation took effect Tuesday.

According to police, they tried to contact the car’s owner after receiving a report from the hospital, but failed. Police issue fines for violators only when they can’t be reached by phone or don’t follow the parking lot management’s instructions to move their cars.

The public can call 0755-83333333 to report illegal parking in commercial parking lots. If the parking violators don’t move their cars at the request of the parking management or police officers, police will impose fines or even tow away their vehicles.

    Congestion improved

THE traffic congestion situation in Shenzhen improved in 2016, ranking No. 6 among Chinese cities, a research report by the Ministry of Transportation and the transportation research center of Tsinghua University showed. Jinan, Harbin, and Beijing were the most congested cities, followed by Chongqing and Guiyang. Kunming, Hangzhou, Dalian and Guangzhou also ranked among the top 10 after Shenzhen, the report showed.

    Thief caught

A MAN was caught at Shenzhen North Railway Station on Sunday as he was attempting to steal from travelers. The 51-year-old man was already jailed for one year in Tianjin in 2015 for theft. He will now have to spend his Chinese New Year holiday behind bars in Shenzhen.
