Fog, smog continue to affect SZ on Friday, Saturday
    2017-January-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE low visibility caused by fog and smog will continue in Shenzhen on Friday and Saturday. In some areas, the haze may reach a medium level, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said Thursday.

A second round of hazy weather started to affect the city Wednesday and the situation worsened Thursday. By 1:30 p.m. Thursday, 18 observatory stations, representing more than half of the total, recorded a medium level of pollution. The visibility at Waterline Park in Bao’an District was only 2.7 kilometers, the lowest in the city. The city said that the condition didn’t warrant an alert for air pollution.

The condition will improve slightly Sunday and Monday after cold air from the north is reinforced Saturday afternoon.

The first round of haze affected the city Jan. 5-6 and the city’s central and western areas recorded medium-level pollution. The city has recorded 11 hazy days since November, the second-least amount in five years.

The observatory suggested that residents, especially elderly people and children, reduce outdoor activities and take appropriate precautions.  (Han Ximin)
