    Coen brothers’ TV series

THE Coen brothers will make their first TV show, a miniseries titled “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.”

Joel and Ethan Coen will write and direct the project, set in the Old West, Annapurna Television announced late Tuesday. The production company said it plans to make “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” with “an innovative television and theatrical integrated approach.”

    Michael Keaton apology

MICHAEL KEATON says anyone who reads something discriminatory into his Golden Globes garble of “Hidden Fences” is “extraordinarily incorrect.” Keaton said Wednesday that he is sorry for the error and feels especially bad for the makers of “Hidden Figures” for the flub.

Keaton said he “made a mistake reading the teleprompter and the cue cards” when he conflated the titles of “Hidden Figures” and “Fences” at the awards ceremony Sunday. Both films have predominantly black casts.

‘La La Land’ for Feb. 14

DAMIEN CHAZELLE’S modern musical has gotten the official green light for local distribution from China’s film regulators, according to media reports. No release date has yet been announced, but a source with knowledge of the decision at China Film Group says the plan is to open “La La Land” on Valentine’s Day — Tuesday, Feb. 14.

    Duet

ARIANA GRANDE and John Legend are teaming up to record “Beauty and the Beast,” theme song of the upcoming Disney live-action film.

The song was written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken for the 1991 animated feature “Beauty and the Beast” and originally sung by actress Angela Lansbury in her role as the voice of the character Mrs. Potts and then re-recorded by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the film’s soundtrack. The new “Beauty and the Beast” soundtrack will be released March 10.
