Huaqiangbei’s history
    2017-January-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHENERS can still remember Huaqiangbei’s glory days. It was originally transformed from the Shangbu Industrial Zone established in 1982, and in the early 1980s the Electronic Science and Technology Building, which was not only the highest building in Shenzhen, but also the highest one in China at the time it was built. For a long time, it had been a symbol of Shenzhen.

Huaqiangbei has been a cradle of entrepreneurs. Some well-known enterprises like Tencent and Hasee Computer were initiated there. In only 30 years, Huaqiangbei developed itself from a wasteland into “China’s No. 1 Electronics.”

However, with the unexpected and irresistible rise of e-commerce, many businesses at the Huaqiangbei market closed. And in 2013, due to the construction of Metro Line 7, the street was closed.
