    Chinese paintings

    He Xiangning Art Museum reopened Nov. 18 with a fresh exhibition, featuring paintings by 11 Chinese masters who had been greatly influenced by their studies in Japan in 1905-1937. The 11 masters at the exhibition include Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng and Fu Baoshi. During their time in Japan, they were exposed to the synthesis of Western and Nihonga (traditional Japanese style) approaches in the contemporary Japanese art world.

    Tibeten treasures

    “Propitious Clouds Holding Up the Mount Qomolangma — Selected Artworks of Tibetan Buddhism” features 130 exquisite objects, all with great historical and religious significance. Dating back to the Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, the objects offer a rare glimpse into a culture both opulent and deeply spiritual. The exhibits are on loan from the magnificent Potala Palace and Norbulingka, as well as Tibet Museum and Southeast Tibet Cultural Heritage Museum of Nyingchi City.

    Dates: Until May 3

    Open: 10 a.m.-6 p.m., closed Mondays

    Replicas of Mogao murals

    Reproduced images of murals from the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang in northwestern Gansu Province are on display at Shenzhen University. The murals in the caves date from the 5th to the 14th century, and many earlier ones were repainted at later points within the period. The murals are valued for the scale and richness of content as well as their artistry.

    Dates: Until March 1 (Closed Mondays and Jan. 14-Feb. 19)

    Open: 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., 2-5 p.m.
