Tang Jun (R), president of Shenzhen Pen Calligraphy Association, writes couplets for Nadia Maria (2nd R), at a Spring Festival couplet writing event at Shenzhen Library on Saturday.
It is customary for Chinese families to paste Spring Festival couplets on their doors, adding to the joyous atmosphere of the festival. The couplets are generally written on red paper, and the sentences contain auspicious meanings. Shenzhen Library hosted the couplet writing event Saturday to greet the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, which falls on Jan. 28 this year. Visitors received free Spring Festival couplets written by 20 elderly calligraphers on the spot. Co-organizers of the event included Shenzhen Association of Elderly Calligraphers and Painters, and Shenzhen Pen Calligraphy Association. Cathy Mo
