Cherry blossoms

RESIDENTS can enjoy the Spring Festival holiday by visiting the Mission Hill Ecological Sports Park where a cherry blossom festival will be staged from Jan. 28 to April, according to the organizer.

Besides attractions like Cherry Blossom Boulevard, Cherry Blossom Corridor and Cherry Blossom Sea, which are decorated to create a festive mood, a Taiwan Food Carnival will also be staged. A total of 50,000 windmills and 100,000 wind bells decorate the park.

New school head

ZHU HUAWEI, former head of Guangzhou Education Research Institute, has been appointed head of Shenzhen Middle School.

Zhu, a tutor of doctorate degree students, is an expert enjoying a special allowance of State Council and a doctorate degree graduate from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

H7N9 situation

SHENZHEN hasn’t received any reports of H7N9 cases so far this year, although experts say Guangdong already entered the peak period for the outbreak of the disease.

As of Monday, Guangdong had reported 11 H7N9 cases with two confirmed deaths. Three were reported in Foshan and two were reported in Guangzhou.

Metro service

METRO operators will extend services by one hour to midnight between Jan. 23-24 and Feb.1-3 to meet the demands of holiday travelers.

Between Jan. 27, the New Year’s Eve, and Feb. 2, Line 3 will begin operating 5-10 minutes in advance of its normal schedule. Line 1, 3 and 5 will start operating 15-20 minutes in advance from Feb. 1-4, the operator said.
