Shenzhen Mangrove Wetlands Conservation Foundation will collaborate with U.S. sustainable outdoor clothing company Patagonia to present three English documentaries, “Force,” “Last Descents” and “The More Things Change,” on environmental protection. Viewers should sign up at the organizer’s WeChat “sz_mcf” as soon as possible Friday.
“Last Descents” is a 40-minute documentary depicting Travis Winn who has been exploring Chinese rivers for 16 years. In the 80s and 90s, among the rush of international teams searching for the last great rivers to explore, Peter Winn was one of these explorers who came to western China to run the headwaters of some of the largest rivers in Asia. After most of the major rivers had been run, he stayed to conduct geological research and to further explore the rivers of China.
His son Travis fell in love with the area and began exploring more of western China. He formed the “Last Descents” project to bring urban Chinese to see the rivers of western China.
The 18-minute “Force” is the collected footage from Mikey Schaefer’s 10 years of climbs, summits and misadventures in Patagonia at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile, woven together into a story of success, fear, joy and growth.
The 26-minute “The More Things Change” features Gerry Lopez’s surfing in Uluwatu, Bali. He first surfed Uluwatu in 1974. The fabled Balinese wave was pristine, magical and empty. He returned to Uluwatu 40 years later to find it bustling, developed and a different scene.
