Photographer Christopher Taylor is exhibiting his “Steinholt” photo series at Meicheng Gallery in Longgang District.
Taylor said “Steinholt” is a photographic series inspired by a sequence of inter-connected family events through time and space. Through a series of black and white analogue photographs compiled over the past five years, Taylor hopes to evoke the memory of the past, the stark natural beauty of his wife’s hometown in Iceland, and the people who continue to inhabit the landscape.
“The ancestors [of my wife] lived on isolated crofts scattered across a rugged landscape, in houses built of turf and driftwood. The harsh climate and sparse population caste even minor incidents into sharp relief. These events became stories, retold by family, or published in accounts of local history, and have enabled me to retrace the movements of my wife’s forefathers across the landscape as they moved from farm to farm in search of work or a place to settle and raise a few sheep,” said Taylor.
