    2017-January-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Baoyi Beijing Opera Troupe and Bandao Beijing Opera Troupe will present Beijing opera shows Jan. 30 and Feb. 3 at Bao’an People’s Cultural Art Hall. Entry is free but audience members need to claim free tickets as soon as possible at the hall.

Beijing opera is a form of Chinese opera which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance, and acrobatics. It arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. The form was extremely popular in the Qing Dynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China. Major performance troupes are based in Beijing and Tianjin in the north, and Shanghai in the south.

During the Cultural Revolution from 1966-1976, revolutionary-themed Beijing opera shows were highly popular. At the Jan. 30 show, audience members will enjoy both the traditional folklore-themed pieces and the revolutionary-themed pieces.

    Time: 2:30 p.m., Jan. 30; 3 p.m., Feb. 3

    Venue: Bao’an People’s Cultural Art Hall, Xin’an Road 2, Bao’an District (宝安区新安二路宝安区群众文化艺术馆)

Metro: Line 5, Lingzhi Station (灵芝站), Exit A
