SECTION D of the western part of the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Belt opened to the public on a trial basis Tuesday.
Section D starts at the mouth of the Zhongxin River in Nanshan District and extends 850 meters westward. It maintains the style of the eastern section of the park, with a 7-meter-wide walkway and a 4-meter-wide bicycle lane separated by plants and grass. The project contractors and the government had to relocate a temporary water treatment plant and remove border police inspection station pavilions to complete the project, which lasted about a year.
Section D is part of the 6.6-kilometer coastal belt project that will be developed in four sections called D, E, F and G.
Section E will run about 760 meters to a hill in Shekou. Sections F and G will run 4,200 meters between the Peninsula housing estate and Shekou Port Park. The project will have six sightseeing parks and squares with different themes.
The coastal belt runs 15.6 kilometers and sections A, B and C, with a total length of 9 kilometers, were put into use in June 2011, the eve of the 26th Summer Universiade.
Sections E, F and G are scheduled to be completed before the National Day holiday this year.
