BORDER authorities estimate that more than 1.52 million people will cross the border via Futian and Huanggang checkpoints during the Spring Festival holiday between tomorrow and Feb. 3.
The two checkpoints have added 40 e-lanes to handle the passenger surge and will give updates on the passenger flow situation over the broadcasting system in Chinese, English and Cantonese.
Cross-border travelers have been advised to stagger their trips and avoid the peak hours from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Authorities have also reminded travelers that it is illegal to use another person’s travel permit to cross the border. Violators will be held under administrative detention for up to 10 days and fined 10,000 yuan (US$1,458). In serious circumstances, violators will be held criminally responsible.
